Two vehicle crash sends one driver to the hospital

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -- A two-vehicle personal injury crash on M-26, north of Coal Dock Road on Monday sent one driver to the hospital, according to the Michigan State Police Calumet Post.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., troopers responded to the crash, in which a 21-year-old female, Cortney Vannorman, was traveling south and was slowing to turn right into a private driveway. A 24-year-old female, Lynsie Waatti, was traveling south behind Vannorman. Waatti failed to stop and struck the rear-end of Vannorman's vehicle. Vannorman's vehicle came to rest off the roadway in a snowbank.

Initial investigation revealed that a wrecker service, with its emergency lights on, was parked on the east side of the road, removing a disabled vehicle, and may have caused a distraction.

Vannorman, who complained of neck pain as a result of the crash, was transported by Mercy EMS to Keweenaw Aspirus Hospital, where she was treated.

Waatti was cited for careless driving. Troopers said seat belts were worn by all occupants, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Troopers were assisted by Dollar Bay, Quincy, Bootjack and Franklin Township First Responders.
