1 dead in Ontonagon County vehicle crash

ONTONAGON COUNTY — A 75-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Gogebic-Ontonagon county line Saturday night.

Philip Wirtanen of Merriweather, Michigan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he had a medical condition that contributed to the collision, according to a Michigan State Police Wakefield Post release.

The crash occurred about 5:43 p.m., on M-28 near Jack Spur Road.

Anthony Beinhorn, 24, of Shakopee, Minnesota, was also treated and released for minor injuries from Aspirus Grandview Hospital. Neither car had a passenger.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department, Beacon EMS, Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, SONCO South EMS, Bergland Township Fire Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Iron County Dispatch.
