PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — A three-car accident in Portage Township Friday afternoon resulted in minor injuries.

About 5:35 p.m. Friday, a vehicle driven by a 64-year-old Atlantic Mine man made a left-hand turn onto West Sharon Avenue (Green Acres Road) from M-26. He failed to see a vehicle driven by a 66-year-old Painesdale woman traveling southbound on M-26 with her headlights off. The Atlantic Mine man turned into the rear drivers of the Painesdale woman’s vehicle, causing her to spin out and cross the centerline into the path of a northbound pickup driven by a 31-year-old Houghton woman.

Hurontown Fire extricated the 66-year-old Painesdale woman with Jaws of Life. Mercy EMS transported her to UP Health System – Portage for non-life-threatening injuries.

The drivers of the other vehicles and their passengers sought their own medical treatment.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Hurontown Fire, Hancock Police Department, Mercy EMS and Superior Service Towing.
