Hancock Schools: Bus routes and lunches announced

HANCOCK — In his weekly Friday email update, Superintendent Steve Patchin included the bus routes for this week, which can also be found on the school website.

“We ask for your patience in this first week as we work on the timing of the runs,” he said. “Those not part of the route, (who) would like to get bussing, will have to wait one to two weeks to begin getting picked up after they notify us of their intention to ride the bus.”

Patchin also asked that students and parents remember rules for the year, including:

• Face coverings will be required for drivers and all students riding the bus. Those following this policy will not be allowed to continue to ride the bus, and will need to find alternative transportation to school.

• Hand sanitizer will be provided for all students as they enter the bus, it is recommended they use this before they sit down.

• Family members must sit together.

• Students must remain in their assigned seat.

• Food/gum may not be eaten/chewed on the bus.

• Drivers will disinfect commonly touched surfaces after each run.

• Busses will have a complete interior and exterior washing and sanitizing weekly.

• Windows will be opened when possible to increase the ventilation of the bus.

• Note: Young 5’s and kindergarten students will not be left at a bus stop without the driver able to see an adult at the stop. The child will stay on the bus throughout the route and will be brought back to the Elementary school. The parent will be notified by office staff in the meantime.

Patchin also updated information on the Lunch Program, saying that the state of Michigan, with federal support, will be extending our summer lunch program.

Some details include:

• The schools are asking that families fill out a free and reduced meal application within the next two weeks to help the school qualify for funding to help run the schools and food program.

“You don’t need to take advantage of the free lunch program if you fill this form out,” said Patchin, “but failure to complete these forms is disqualifying our school from gaining additional operating funds from state and federal programs.”

• Students will be able to continue to receive free lunches and breakfasts.

• Students who have chosen the streaming or virtual option, can pick up meals once a week, similar to the summer program. Pick up for streaming and virtual students will begin Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 4 to 5:15 p.m., and continue each Tuesday until the program ends.

“We will be sending you our sign up information for this program next week,” he said.
