Possible assault of a Wisconsin man in Copper Harbor

No victim has come forward to file formal complaint

COPPER HARBOR — A social media post appeared over the weekend reporting an assault that allegedly occurred in Copper Harbor recently sometime Friday night or Saturday morning.

“Any info anyone have on some people jumping a guy alone last night in Copper Harbor in the park please let me know,” stated the report, that appears to have been originally posted by a man named William Johnson. “He was on a park bench with no rooms available when the storm hit. They busted up his face and took his Trump flag off his Harley and pulled the plug wires. Guy just came up for a ride from Wisconsin to check it out up here.”

When contacted Monday, Keweenaw County Sheriff, Curt Pennala, said that his office has received no complaints regarding the incident, so cannot attest to its accuracy.

“We have received a few calls from people concerned about it,” Pennala said, “but we have no information to give anybody, because we have not received a complaint.”

Pennala said that unless his office has a victim come forward, there is no complaint, although he had several county residents over the weekend, asking about the incident. If the alleged victim is sill in the area, Pennala asks that he please stop in at the Sheriff’s Office in Eagle River.

Pennala also asks that anyone with any information on this, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 906-337-0528.
