Chassell students make best of tough situation

This school year has been anything but ordinary. In a normal year, Chassell Township Schools' students and staff members participate in what they call, "Christmas Spirit Week." During the week leading up to the holiday break, students normally participate in dress-up days, class activities, and usually a few "pack-the-gym" nights for their boys' and girls' basketball teams.

Even though COVID-19 has limited what normally takes place the weeks leading up to the holiday break, the CTS High School Student Council and CTS elementary teachers wanted to make sure their students had dress-up days and activities to look forward to this holiday season.

During the two weeks leading into the break, both the elementary and the middle/high school had Christmas spirit days. From "Favorite Christmas Movie Character Day" to "Christmas Overload Day," students really enjoyed dressing up with their classmates.

Along with dressing up, the school students have had a different activity every other day, such as; "Cardboard Box Sledding," "Santa Hat Football," and "Photo Scavenger Hunt." Although the grade 9-12 students were not able to participate, the middle school students kept the Christmas spirit alive! They decorated their hallways, made Christmas ornaments, and designed holiday greeting cards that will be delivered to Portage Pointe.

The Chassell Elementary School has also participated in Christmas spirit month. Grades K-5 had dress-up days for the whole month of December starting with "Red and Green Day" and ending with "Ugly Sweater Day." They created many different crafts, participated in "Old Fashioned Christmas Caroling" since they were unable to have a Christmas program this year.

The month ended on the 18th with a winter fun day which included crafts, a walk in the woods, and a campfire.

Even with limitations, the students put forth a ton of effort to make the best of the situation and had a blast participating.
