ONTONAGON -- An Ontonagon man suspected of selling methamphetamine in the Ontonagon area was arrested Thursday after a nine-month investigation by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET).
UPSET detectives had found information that the 29-year-old man had been selling methamphetamine in the area since September, UPSET said in a press release. Detectives also established the man had been receiving packages from Arizona.
On Thursday, detectives intercepted a package being sent to Woodspur Road in Ontonagon which they determined contained methamphetamine and heroin, UPSET said. The package was delivered to the home; when the man picked it up, he was arrested. Detectives executed a search warrant at his home and vehicle. They recovered a digital scale, numerous electronic devices and paperwork indicating drug activity, UPSET said in a release.
The man's name will not be released until his arraignment in 98th District Court. The Ontonagon County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case and additional charges are expected.
UPSET was assisted by MSP-Hometown Security Team, MSP-Calumet Post K-9, MSP Emergency Support Team, MSP-Wakefield Post, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Homeland Security Agency.
