CALUMET TOWNSHIP -- A Calumet woman was killed after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 in Calumet Township Sunday night.
The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday night, when a southbound vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Dollar Bay man hit a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old Calumet woman turning northbound onto U.S. 41 from Church Street, the Houghton County Sheriff's Office said.
The Calumet woman and two child passengers were transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Valley Med Flight then flew the woman to UP Health System -- Marquette, where she was pronounced dead on Monday. No condition was available Monday afternoon for the two juvenile passengers.
The 25-year-old man and his passenger, a 25-year-old Dollar Bay woman, were transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. The man was treated and released; the woman was in stable condition as of Monday.
Mercy EMS took people from both vehicles to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. Calumet Township Fire and Rescue responded and used the Jaws of Life to extract people from both vehicles.
U.S. 41 was temporarily closed during the response to the accident. Joe's Towing and Superior Service Towing towed and impounded both vehicles.
Laurium Police Department assisted the sheriff's office. The crash is still under investigation.
