Red Jacket Jamboree’s Christmas radio show to be aired on UP radio station

redjacketjamboree.org The Red Jacket Jamboree announced that their Christmas show will be aired on WNMU this year.

CALUMET — The Red Jacket Jamboree’s holiday special, “Christmas in the Keweenaw” radio show will be broadcast on WNMU Public Radio 90 on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m., said Executive Director of Real People Media, Rebecca Glotfelty. The program may also be streamed at this time through www.wnmufm.com.

“The episode features musical guests Younce Guitar Duo and jazz vocalist Jennifer Barnett,” said Glotfelty.

In addition, this year’s guest story teller is author Charli Mills, who recalls her first winter living in the Keweenaw.

“And as always, there will be comedy by the Red Jacket Radio Actors,” Glotfelty said. “It’s a holiday show for the entire family. The holiday episode was recorded in front of a live audience in December of 2019 at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts.”

The Red Jacket Jamboree is an old time radio variety show which shares songs, stories, history and music from Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. Hosted by Lena Dorey and Marty Achatz (Two-Time Poet Laureate of the Upper Peninsula) the show also features actor Ralph Horvath, the Copper Cats under the direction of Jerry Younce on guitar, internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Bill Carrothers, Harold South on Bass and Zach Ott on Percussion. The program is produced by Real People Media, which also operates the Keweenaw Storytelling Center in Calumet, Michigan.

Real People Media (RPM) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to help people share their stories through the literary, visual, performing and media arts, Glotfelty explained. The organization owns and operates the Keweenaw Storytelling Center in Calumet, Michigan” . Since 2010, RPM has helped individuals and organizations share stories which educate, entertain, and inspire.

Since October of 2017, 46 episodes of The Red Jacket Jamboree have been performed/recorded. Seventeen of these episodes have been broadcast on Michigan Public Radio Networks including WNMU Public Radio 90 and Interlochen Public Radio. In January 2022, episodes will be available for international distribution through PRX Radio Exchange. PRX Radio Exchange also distributes other popular radio programs such as “The Moth,” “This American Life,” and Michigan’s “New Jazz Archive.” hosted by Jeff Haas.

The Red Jacket Jamboree is supported by funding from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural affairs, private and corporate donors and ticket revenue.
