Minnesota man killed in Baraga Co. snowmobile crash
COVINGTON TOWNSHIP — A Minnesota man was killed after losing control of his snowmobile in a crash in Covington Township Wednesday night.
The operator, a 44-year-old Minnesota man, was thrown from his snowmobile after failing to negotiate a curve while riding westbound on Trail No. 8, the Baraga County Sheriff’s Office determined after investigating. Deputies responded to the scene about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Deputies believe excessive speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Covington Fire, Michigamme/Spurr Fire, L’Anse Fire and Bay EMS.
