Karen Kafantaris, Associate State Director, AARP Michigan, will present a HomeFit Workshop via Zoom at the Portage Lake District Library on Tuesday, September 13 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The Zoom link will be posted on the library's calendar: https://pldl.org/calendar-of-events/
A recent AARP survey found that 77% of older Americans want to age in place--to live in their own home safely, independently and comfortably.
Although almost 20 percent of Americans are age 65 or older, most houses and apartments are designed for young, able-bodied adults and don't meet the needs of older residents.
Hence, the AARP's HomeFit program is designed to help people live safely and comfortably by taking a room-by-room approach to age-friendly home modifications.
In conjunction with Karen's presentation, PLDL Board of Trustees Vice President Jenn Donovan is organizing an aging-in-place display at the library for September, which is Healthy Aging Month.
