Covid-19 Update week of Nov. 11

HOUGHTON — COVID-19 activity rose in Houghton County in the past week but held steady in Baraga County, according to state data posted Wednesday.

Houghton County had 41 confirmed positives since Nov. 1, 21 more than a week earlier. Baraga County reported 16 new confirmed cases, four more than the previous week, while Keweenaw County had no new cases for the eight-day period.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 259 confirmed positives since Nov. 1 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 45 in Dickinson County, 41 in Houghton County, 33 in Menominee County, 26 in Marquette County, 24 in Gogebic County, 21 in Delta County, 16 in Baraga County, 14 in Iron County, 10 in Ontonagon County, eight in Mackinac County, seven in Schoolcraft and Alger counties, five in Chippewa County, and two in Luce County.

The state recorded more one more virus-related death for the week in Iron, Marquette, Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 60,852 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 933 deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 571 confirmed cases and 67 probable, and 14 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 761 confirmed cases and 868 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and three probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,130 confirmed, 131 probable and 40 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,243 confirmed, 809 probable and eight deaths, nine probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,292 confirmed cases and 809 probable, 14 deaths and four probable; Mackinac County, 1,921 confirmed cases and 967 probable, 32 deaths and four probable; Baraga County, 2,019 confirmed cases, 433 probable and 56 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,979 confirmed cases and 394 probable, 82 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,404 confirmed cases and 637 probable, 43 deaths and 31 probable; Chippewa County, 4,045 confirmed cases and 5,911 probable, and 95 deaths, 18 probable; Menominee County, 4,576 confirmed cases, 2,093 probable and 64 deaths, 13 probable; Dickinson County, 5,881 confirmed cases and 2,972 probable, 95 deaths and 24 probable; Houghton County, 7,985 confirmed cases, 1,222 probable, 92 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 8,776 confirmed cases and 3,052 probable, 140 deaths and 29 probable; and Marquette County, 14,269 confirmed cases, 3,917 probable and 142 deaths, 16 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 9,992 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Nov. 1, or an average of about 1,427 cases per day for the eight-day period, for a total of 2,907,819 cases since COVID tracking began. The state since Nov. 1 added 168 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 39,574.

The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, usually on Tuesdays. It delayed until Wednesday this week due to the state elections.
