COVID-19 update: week of Nov. 14

HOUGHTON — COVID-19 activity declined in Houghton and Baraga counties in the past week, while Keweenaw County had a second straight week with no new coronavirus cases, according to state data posted Tuesday.

Houghton County had 28 confirmed positives since Nov. 9, 13 fewer than a week earlier. Baraga County reported 10 new confirmed cases, six fewer than the previous week.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 225 confirmed positives since Nov. 9 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 46 in Dickinson County, 43 in Delta County, 28 in Houghton County, 25 in Menominee County, 17 in Marquette and Gogebic counties, 13 in Ontonagon County, 10 in Iron and Baraga counties, six in Alger County, four in Schoolcraft and Chippewa counties and one in Luce and Mackinac counties.

The state recorded no virus-related death for the week in the Upper Peninsula.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 61,077 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 933 deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 571 confirmed cases and 67 probable, and 14 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 762 confirmed cases and 869 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and three probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,143 confirmed, 135 probable and 40 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,249 confirmed, 810 probable and eight deaths, nine probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,296 confirmed cases and 809 probable, 14 deaths and four probable; Mackinac County, 1,922 confirmed cases and 967 probable, 32 deaths and four probable; Baraga County, 2,029 confirmed cases, 434 probable and 56 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,989 confirmed cases and 395 probable, 82 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,421 confirmed cases and 645 probable, 43 deaths and 31 probable; Chippewa County, 4,049 confirmed cases and 5,918 probable, and 95 deaths, 18 probable; Menominee County, 4,601 confirmed cases, 2,101 probable and 64 deaths, 13 probable; Dickinson County, 5,927 confirmed cases and 3,021 probable, 95 deaths and 24 probable; Houghton County, 8,013 confirmed cases, 1,229 probable, 92 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 8,819 confirmed cases and 3,061 probable, 140 deaths and 30 probable; and Marquette County, 14,286 confirmed cases, 3,939 probable and 142 deaths, 16 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 12,860 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Nov. 9, or an average of about 1,837 cases per day for the six-day period, for a total of 2,920,679 cases since COVID tracking began. The state since Nov. 9 added 123 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 39,697.

The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, usually on Tuesdays.
