The Miracle Worker is a play by William Gibson published by Samuel French that tells the story of Annie Sullivan, a young teacher from Boston, who is hired to help Helen Keller, a deaf and blind girl, to communicate with the world. The play is based on the true story of Keller, who was born normal but became deaf and blind after an illness when she was a baby. Keller’s parents, Captain Keller and his wife Kate, are wealthy and have hired many teachers to help their daughter, but none have been successful. The play also explores themes of education, communication, and perseverance. It is a powerful and inspiring story that celebrates the human spirit and the ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
“With The Miracle Worker, we hope to offer our community an inspiring and entertaining experience that showcases the talents of our local actors and theatre enthusiasts,” says Mike Aubin, director of the play. “We invite audiences of all ages to join us for a captivating journey into this story’s world of overcoming impossible odds.”
Under Mike Aubin’s creative vision, The Miracle Worker’s cast includes Emelea Doolittle as Helen Keller, Erin Aubin as Annie Sullivan, George Wagner as Captain Keller, Rebekah Stadius as Kate Keller, and Stephan Mannikko as James Keller, among others. The production team also consists of Jonathan Pressel on set design and Patricia Trudell on costumes.
