Keredge Gallery presents: Surface Tension

Visiting artist Mike Marks will showcase hand carved wood block prints, ink wash paintings and drawings through June 29.

In his statement about the exhibition Mike explains, “Surface Tension explores themes of movement and permanence within the landscape, depicting nature as a collection of fragmented moments. These works are all baed on my personal experiences with the land, but are made through a lens of removal that occurs with the passage of time between the landscape and the studio. Working on paper, it is my hope to convey the fagility between memory and place, representation and surface.”

Mike Marks has been working out of the Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis since 2016. He studied Drawing and Printmaking at the Cleveland Institute of Art (BFA) and Printmaking at the University of Delaware (MFA).

Mike has received numerous grants and fellowships over the years for his work in printmaking, including a McKnight Fellowship (2020), Minnesota State Arts Board Grant (2019) and Jerome Foundation Fellowship (2018).

Marks will be in the Copper country the last week of June. On Wednesday, June 28 he will give a free demonstration on Woodcut Carving from noon to 2 p.m.
