HOUGHTON — No injuries were reported after an equipment fire at the Michigan Technological University campus Thursday afternoon.

The fire at the Minerals and Materials Engineering Building was contained to a small piece of equipment, Michigan Technological University said in a statement. The building was evacuated after the fire.

As a precautionary measure against potential fumes, the building was closed for the remainder of the day and will be open again by Friday.

“We are grateful for the fast response by the Houghton Fire Department, who ensured the situation was quickly brought under control,” the university said.
