HOUGHTON — The City of Houghton Police Department has received multiple reports of a e-mail scam that is targeting residents in the area. 

Further details of this scam include a PDF attached to an email that demands money to be sent to the anonymous party in the form of Bitcoin. Each email is personalized in the terms of the victim’s name, address, and phone number. Nobody who receives similar suspicious emails should open or act upon the details within the email. 

People who receive similar emails should feel free to contact their local police department. At no point after receiving a suspicious email should they send money, gift cards, or Bitcoin to the other party.
