Police say Sault Ste. Marie and Little Lakes deaths ruled as murder/suicides
Two separate incidents in different areas of the Upper Peninsula over the past week have both been ruled murder/suicides.
Officials have released details of a shooting incident that left two dead at a senior living community in Sault Ste. Marie Tuesday. Police and fire departments responded to a call at 8:30 a.m. at the Wood Creek Manor, a senior living facility near the Lake Superior State University campus.
When police arrived on scene, an unnamed man, who was a tenant, and an unnamed woman, who was a landlord, were both found in a hallway. They were pronounced dead at the scene due to gunshot wounds.
According to a Sault police press release, their investigation determined that the tenant was involved in a dispute with the landlord before the shooting. Police also determined that the tenant shot and killed the landlord before turning the gun on himself.
Meanwhile, in Marquette County, a couple police found dead in a home in Little Lake last week is also believed to be a case of murder/suicide.
Forsyth Township Police Department officers discovered the bodies of Tory David Chiconsky, 52, and Jamie Lee Foy, 45, while conducting a well-being search at the 1906 First St. residence at noon on Jan. 30.
Police said the couple was involved in an on and off again relationship for several years.
“Although all the exact details leading up to the incident remain unclear, it is believed that this incident was a domestic dispute which turned violent and deadly,” Forsyth Police Chief Brian Kjellin wrote in a press release.
Police report that before taking his own life, it appears Chiconsky allegedly stabbed Foy to death.
Autopsies were conducted Jan. 31 at the Michigan Institute of Forensic Science & Medicine in Saginaw to determine the official cause of death.
Autopsy results including toxicology reports are not expected for about a month.
The Michigan State Police Crime Scene Unit Marquette, Michigan StatePolice Detective Unit from the eighth District, Forsyth Township EMS, Michigan Institute of Forensic Science & Medicine, Marquette County Central Dispatch, Escanaba Public Safety Department and Ishpeming City Police assisted Forsyth Township Police in the investigation.
“The Forsyth Township Police Department would like to extend its deepest condolences to all the family members affected by this tragic event,” Kjellin wrote.
The case was sent to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
