CALUMET — Saturday morning, though chilly and windy, saw a large turnout for the opening day of the Calumet Farmers Market organized by the From the Ground Farmer’s Market Collective. With more than 30 vendors signed up for the season, this is the largest offering the Calumet location has had.

There are a multitude of farms with tables spread out through the vendors including Boersma Family Roots, Ghost House Farm, Minnie Farms, and Whispering Wild Market Farm among others. Fresh produce ranges from a wide selection of greens to radishes to cucumbers with more and more options becoming available as the season continues.

For those looking for snacks and sweets, there is small batch granola from The Forager & The Baker, sourdough specialties from That Lake Linden Baking Lady as well as Bit-O-Sweet & Sourdough, and gluten free options from Kayden Norwood. Circle Back Farm has you covered for maple syrup, maple sugar, and maple candy.

A number of vendors also offer things beyond food products including skin care offerings, books, and handmade crafts. This list is far from exhaustive, and intended more to whet appetites for what the market has to offer.

From the Ground Farmer’s Market Collective believes in “fresh food for all” and, to that end, the Calumet Farmers Market has many different purchasing options. Customers with credit/debit cards are encouraged to purchase tokens at the Market Table which can be used as cash with any vendor at the market. This helps keep card processing fees from being passed on to the local vendors.

In addition, seven food assistance programs are accepted including SNAP/EBT Bridge Cards, Double Up Food Bucks, Aspirus Prescription for Health, UP Food As Medicine, UP Fresh Food Access, MTU HuskyFan, and Senior Project FRESH (accepted only through approved vendors). WIC recipients may also be able to use their benefits through approved vendors. Interested shoppers can speak with the Market Table helpers the day of events, or access the From the Ground website for more information.

The Calumet Farmers Market is open every Saturday through October 10th from 10am – 2pm in the Agassiz Park parking lot. With live music playing and plenty of vendors available, this is a welcoming space for shopping and socializing.

Starting at $4.00/week.
