LAURIUM — The Daniell Park Concert Series is back this year, with the summer’s first event scheduled for Thursday, June 25.
At the regular June Village Council meeting Tuesday, Council Vice President Jeff Erickson said an electrical issue at the park is being addressed this week, but will not interfere with the start of the event schedule.
The electrical system is old and needs to be updated with new wiring and electrical boxes, he said. The village is working the Upper Peninsula Power Company and Erico Electric for the upgrades and ensure that they are up to code before the season’s first concert. The work is expected to be completed sometime this week.
There are no delays anticipated for the first show, because next week’s music band does not require electricity for speakers or amplification.
The first band to perform in the series is the Copper Country Community Band, a volunteer concert band based in the Keweenaw, 40 musicians ranging in age from middle schoolers to retirees. The band is co-directed by local music educators Amy Johnson (K-12 Music, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Schools) and Micah Erickson (Band Director, Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools), and performs a mix of classic concert band repertoire, traditional marches, and popular medleys.
