Breakwater FCU expands main office, will immediately begin renovations
HOUGHTON — Breakwater Federal Credit Union announced Tuesday it is starting expansion and renovation in its main Sharon Avenue location. It will now undergo an expansion in the back portion of the building, as well as making quality of life improvements for employees and members.
Breakwater CEO Paula Megowen said in the Tuesday announcement she was excited to expand to benefit both Breakwater’s staff and members.
“This project is designed to balance our future growth with our daily commitment to our members and staff,” she said. “We are excited to upgrade our facility in a way that supports expansion while elevating the overall member experience.”
Originally constructed in 1994, Breakwater has been at its Sharon Avenue location for over 30 years. Marketing and Community Relations Coordinator Kayleigh White said the needs of its members and the number of members have drastically changed.
“Our membership has grown so much that we kind of need to expand a little bit to better serve our members,” she said. “We’re going to be re-doing some of the office spaces and also the member spaces as well.”
White said construction is underway and members may see changes to both the outside and inside of the building.
“This is a major renovation for us,” she said. “Members are going to be seeing some changes in the parking lot and inside the building.”
While Breakwater will not be expanding its staff, White said the renovations will make them more comfortable in the main location.
“Our space right now is not meeting our needs as far as our volume of employees goes,” she said. “We really just need to expand just to meet the needs that we currently have.”
According to White, members will greatly benefit from the additional space. They will be able to be served better within the main office and have access to modernized technology within the credit union.
White said Breakwater has been planning the expansion for a while, but it was now time to fully announce it.
