KINGSFORD -- Ann Wilson of Heart will be the Saturday, Aug. 5, headliner at the Kingsford Centennial Celebration.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest voices in the history of rock 'n' roll, Wilson is an icon, known far and wide as lead singer and songwriter of the groundbreaking rock band Heart. Led by Wilson's vocal power, Heart has thrilled audiences for over four decades, earning sales of more than 35 million and well-deserved induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
As lead singer of the first female-fronted superstar hard rock band, Wilson blazed a trail for generations of women to come, while her songs including "Barracuda," "Crazy On You," "Straight On," and "Magic Man" have become part of the fabric of popular culture.
Her latest album, "Fierce Bliss," was released last spring via Silver Lining Music. It's not just an album for fans of Ann Wilson and Heart, it is an album for everyone seeking a lavish ticket out of the sharp edges of an increasingly fraught society. The album artwork comes from the mind and hands of celebrated fantasy artist Roger Dean, who is also renowned for his Yes sleeve artwork.
The City of Kingsford turns 100 years old and its Centennial Committee has been working for over a year to put together one of the biggest music events ever in the Upper Peninsula.
The three-day Centennial Celebration will take place August 3-5 at Lodal Park on Breitung Avenue in Kingsford. All main stage acts are now confirmed. Thursday is being billed as the Ultimate 80's rock party and will feature Vince Neil of Motley Crue and Stephen Pearcy of Ratt. Also appearing on Thursday will be the 80's tribute act from the Fox Valley "The Glam Band" and AC/DC tribute band "Noise Pollution" based out of California.
Friday will be highlighted by the legendary country group Big & Rich along with Cowboy Troy. Friday will include performances by Runaway June, Andy Gibbons/Bad Axe Rodeo and special guest Jim Counter, and Stephen Ray.
The event will culminate on Saturday with Ann Wilson of Heart. Also appearing on Saturday will be Gin Blossoms, Mark Farner's American Band, and FBI and the Untouchable Horns.
The event will have a second stage with a great lineup of local bands to provide continuous music between main stage acts that will include: Next Myle, Oz, Rockslide (reunion), Polar Blues Band, 141 North, The Descendants, and Sons of Legends.
There will be a wide variety of food vendors, commercial vendors, and beverage choices as well as a big kids area full of inflatables and other activities all three days. Plus, there will be a STEM learning experience on Friday and Saturday.
There will be a car cruise and parade up Woodward Avenue on Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m., followed by a car show at Venue 906 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a noon kickoff ceremony at Lodal Park to honor our veterans.
Advance tickets are on sale now -- $45 for a three-day pass and a limited number of one-day tickets for Thursday and Friday at $30 each and Saturday at $40. Service fees apply.
Advance daily tickets can be upgraded on site for the difference to the weekend gate price of $60.
