ESCANABA – The Bay Film Series at Bay College in Escanaba announced its Winter 2026 schedule. For more than 30 years, the Film Series has celebrated the art of filmmaking. With an art-house sensibility, we highlight experimental and character-driven movies, focusing on independent, foreign, and local filmmakers. The annual “Race to the Oscars” is its signature event.
It begins Feb 12 showing “Hamnet,” one of this year’s top contenders for the Best Picture Oscar. Overall, the film is nominated for 8 Oscars. Based upon the best-selling book by Maggie O’Farrell, this beautifully scripted and filmed movie tells the story of Agnes Shakespeare, William’s wife, from his family’s perspective.
Another awards contender comes on March 19 with “One Battle After Another,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which has garnered 13 Oscar nominations. Rotten Tomatoes calls it, “An epic screwball adventure teeming with awe-inspiring action set pieces” and “Paul Thomas Anderson’s most entertaining [and] thematically rich” film yet.
The season finishes on April 16 with “Sirāt,” nominated as Spain’s submission for Best International Feature Film. Critic Peter Travers says, “Nothing about the pulsating ‘Sirāt’ is appropriate or expected or traditional or fully comprehensible. It just is. And it is utterly transfixing.”
All Film Series movies are shown in Bay College’s Besse Theater at 7 p.m. EST. General admission: $5, under 18: $2. Bay students get FREE admission by showing their college ID at the ticket window. Tickets are available at the Besse Center Box Office or online, visit https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/baycollege/3755
