HOUGHTON -- Author Allison Tyra Shares stories of ‘Women Who Made Their Mark After 40′ at an online forum next month. The public is invited to attend a free online forum hosted by the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, November 8. Tyra will share her book “The View from the Hill: Women Who Made Their Mark After 40.”
“The View from the Hill” features more than 300 stories of women from different fields throughout history, ranging from arts to sciences to business to sports. Tyra will share a few of her favorites and discuss some of the contributing factors – both societal and personal – that she sees across these varied situations.
Allison Tyra has a BA in journalism. She is the creator of the Infinite Women project in 2020 (https://www.infinite-women.com/) which includes a database with more than 10,000 biographies, a weekly podcast and short-form videos on YouTube. Her books have come out of this broad view of women’s history. Allison’s first book, Uncredited: Women’s Overlooked, Misattributed, and Stolen Work (2025), and second book, The View from the Hill: Women Who Made Their Mark After 40 (2026), each bring together hundreds of stories from around the world, throughout history and across different fields to challenge entrenched perceptions about women, their work and their abilities. Her third, a women’s history cookbook called Tough Cookies: Sugar, Spice and Women’s History (2027) combines stories from different countries’ histories with traditional and popular dessert recipes from those countries and will be available for pre-order in November.
The public is invited to attend this free, online forum, which is approximately one hour long, on zoom. Find the link at keweenawuu.org upcoming services
