Hancock greets new principal

Mollie Trewartha

HANCOCK – The Hancock School District is ready for the 2025-2026 school year and welcomes back students with new faces and appearances.

Mollie Threwartha is the new middle school/high school principal. She was appointed to the position at a special meeting of the Hancock School Board on July 7.

“I can say that we’re extremely happy and excited that she’s taken on this role for Hancock Public Schools,” Superintendent Chris Salani said. “Mollie is an accomplished educator. She has done a tremendous amount of personal leadership development.”

Threwartha has more than 24 years of experience in education, and is known for her student-centered leadership and collaborative spirit. She previously served as a mathematics teacher and MTSS Coordinator in the Houghton-Portage Township School District.

Salani said her leadership roles will provide direct relevance to how the district is going to move forward operationally the high school and middle school.

“She has an incredible depth of knowledge when it comes to some curricular opportunities that we’re not only going to promote,” Salani said, “but then enhance with with her engagement and involvement.”

In a press release issued by the school district earlier this summer, Trewartha said she was looking forward to this next chapter in her academic career. “I’m excited to partner with students, staff, and families to continue the tradition of Bulldog pride,” said Trewartha. “Together, we can create a thriving school environment where every student feels seen, supported, and challenged.”

Salani said she started her positions in late July. “She’s just taken the ball, so to speak, and she’s certainly done a great job to this point,” he said.

In another issue, a capstone to the district’s Bond Project was recently completed in time for the new year, said Salani. The cafeteria and commons space has been redesigned, and sports graphics, the Bulldog logo, and an overall presence of identity being a member of the Bulldog community.

“It’s going to be a nice piece for the kids to come back to and be proud of,” Salani said.
