WMS wins Olympiad

MARQUETTE — CLK’s Washington Middle School and Calumet High School teams competed in the Region 1 Science Olympiad tournament held on Feb. 21 at Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

The Washington Middle School team captured first place in Division B garnering 18 medals in 23 events. Its performance in Marquette advanced the WMS team to the state final.

Lorelei Fryer of Calumet High School had a very good showing in Division C earning three medals. This qualifies Fryer to compete in three events as Gold Bids independently at the state finals at Michigan State University April 25.

Last month’s accomplishments mark the second straight year the WMS team has scored first place among all teams teams competing from the Upper Peninsula.
