CALUMET -- "Motor City Boomer: The Car Culture That Defined a Generation," presentation and book signing with author Larry Lankton will take place from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Calumet Public Library. This event is free and open to the public.
Lankton will discuss his new book, “Motor City Boomer: The Car Culture That Defined a Generation,” a personal account of growing up in the ’50s and ’60s, when Detroit radically changed the car; the car radically changed the look of America; and baby boomers found themselves living in a new, youthful culture.
Lankton is professor emeritus of history at Michigan Technological University. His scholarly career focused on the history of mining, technological development, and labor in the Upper Peninsula. His book “Cradle to Grave: Life, Work, and Death at the Lake Superior Copper Mines” won a Great Lakes History Prize. Lankton is also the author of “Hollowed Ground: Copper Mining and Community Building on Lake Superior, 1840s-1990s” (Wayne State University Press).
A book signing will follow the presentation and books will be available for purchase as a fundraiser to benefit the library. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Calumet Public Library.
