Suspect arrested in alleged sexual assault

HOUGHTON – According to Michigan Technological University, a suspect has been apprehended by the Houghton Police Department in connection with an alleged sexual assault. The incident was reported to Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services Friday afternoon.

The suspect, whose name has not been released pending arraignment, is being held in the Houghton County Jail. Since the incident occurred off campus, the investigation was turned over to the Houghton Police Department.

Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services will continue to assist if requested. The victim in the alleged incident was a Michigan Tech student.

On Friday afternoon, Tech’s Department of Public Safety and Police Services received a report that a sexual assault occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 5 at an off-campus residence.

A timely warning was issued to the Michigan Tech community, Friday afternoon as required by federal law. Michigan Tech Director of News and Media Relations Jenn Donovan said timely warnings are issued when a possible threat is recognized, under the federal Cleary Act.
