Two Laurium residents arraigned on child porn charges

LAURIUM — Two Laurium residents were arraigned in 97th District Court Friday on charges of allegedly viewing child pornography on the internet.

William Horner, 43, and Stacey Horner, 42, of Laurium, were arrested after an investigation by the Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The investigation was prompted by the discovery of the Horners viewing files of child sexually abusive material, the MSP said in a news release. Law enforcement searched their residence, which led to the seizure of digital evidence, the MSP said.

They were charged with two counts each of child sexually abusive material-aggravated possession and using a computer to commit a crime.

Both charges are punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Bond for both was set at $100,000.

They have probable cause hearings scheduled for Feb. 2, and preliminary hearings a week later.

The MSP Computer Crimes Unit encourages parents to speak to their children and family members about safe use of the internet. There are many resources available to assist in keeping people safe online. The MSP ICAC Task Force provides a comprehensive list of resources on their website at http://www.michiganicac.com.

People with information regarding possible child sexual exploitation are asked to report it to the CyberTipline at http://www.missingkids.org/cybertipline.

Starting at $3.50/week.
