COPPER HARBOR — According to Visit Keweenaw, Copper Harbor’s Hunter’s Point Park isn’t playing it cool – it just landed on a USA Today list of Michigan’s best beaches. The real flex? It’s only one of two U.P. coasts to make the cut, alongside Munising’s Sand Point. A press release from Visit Keweenaw says it’s not just a shoreline — it is a legend. Rugged, rocky, and laced with copper veins that glint in the sunlight, this northern coast outshines the rest of Michigan. Cross the Portage Lake Lift Bridge and head north on the Copper Country Trail National Byway about 40 minutes to reach Hunter’s Point Park.
“Hunter’s Point Park is a special part of Copper Harbor,” said Brad Barnett, Executive Director of Visit Keweenaw. “It offers a front-row seat to Lake Superior’s raw beauty, with stunning views of Porter’s Island and freighters passing through the northern horizon. Last year, it earned a place on USA Today’s 10Best list–and with a little help from the public, we’re hoping to skip another stone across the water and bring home the win again this year.”
You can show your support for Hunter’s Point by voting once a day until noon May 19 at noon. The winners will be posted on May 28. USA Today has recently recognized other Keweenaw attractions like Mount Bohemia for their regionally/nationally acclaimed features.
