UP peace officer memorial is Thursday

Photo Courtesy of Michigan State Police A large American flag suspended between two ladder trucks, will be poised on the Houghton side of the Portage Lift Bridge Thursday, to welcome a procession from the Calumet Post of the Michigan State Police. The procession will continue to the Student Development Complex where a ceremony will be held at 11 a.m.
CALUMET — Law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifce will be honored Thursday. The Calumet Post 87 of the Michigan State Police invites the public to attend the 2025 Upper Peninsula Peace Officer Memorial Service. The event will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Student Development Complex on the Campus of Michigan Technological University.
Procession will start at the Calumet post at 10 a.m. and travel along U.S. 41. There will be two large fire department ladder trucks on the Houghton side of the Portage Lift bridge holding a large American flag.
The procession will travel through Houghton to the SDC where attendees will experience the roll call of fallen officers, the laying of the wreath, a performance of taps culminating in the keynote speech from Houghton County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Helmer.
