Luxury liner visits Houghton

HOUGHTON — The City of Houghton, became an international port of call Wednesday with a visit from the cruise ship Victory II. The 286 ft. luxury liner left Chicago for a Great Lakes cruise. Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said the vessel visited Marquette Tuesday before venturing to Houghton for Wednesday’s visit. Although the liner, with five decks and 95 state rooms, has a capacity for 190 guests, along with a crew of 80, it is not known how many were on board for the Houghton visit.
According to Victory Cruise Line’s website, the ship was constructed in 2001 and refurbished in 2024. Her port of registry is Nassau, Bahamas. After she left Houghton, Victory II was expected to visit Duluth, MN and Thunder Bay, ONT. Victory II is one of two cruise ship’s in Victory’s fleet equal to Victory I. Victory offers all-inclusive coastal cruising along all five Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Canadian Maritimes.
