Motorcycle Fatality
NEGAUNEE — A man from Sault Ste. Marie as the result of an early Thursday morning motorcycle accident in Marquette County. State Police at the Negaunee Post responded to the accident at about 5:10 a.m. Thursday on US-41 at the roundabout near County Road HG south of Marquette.
Troopers arrived on scene to find a motorcycle badly damaged with a single male driver who had been ejected from the bike. The motorcycle is believed to have been traveling eastbound on US-41 and as it approached the roundabout, the driver appeared to have lost control, resulting in a crash with the roundabout berm.
Troopers attempted lifesaving measures, including CPR, prior to EMS arrival. However, the male motorcycle driver was pronounced deceased on scene a short time later. The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash. State Police believe excessive speed appears to have contributed to the cause of the crash and said the victim was not wearing a helmet. The investigation remains ongoing.
Police describe the deceased as a 40-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. His name is being withheld out of respect for the family’s privacy.
MSP was assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette Township Fire and Rescue Department, and the City of Marquette Fire Department.
