POWERS — The Michigan State Police (MSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) invites the public to an open house and recruiting event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the MSP Weigh Scale located at W3864 US Highway 2/41 in the Menominee County community of Powers. This interactive event offers a behind-the-scenes look at the important work performed by MSP Motor Carrier Officers (MCOs). Attendees will have the opportunity to explore weigh scale operations, meet with staff, and gain insight into the critical role MCOs play in ensuring road safety, infrastructure protection, and public safety across Michigan.

“We’re excited to welcome the public to see the important work our Motor Carrier Officers do every day,” said MCO Lt. Chad Larsen, MSP Eighth District CVED Commanding Officer. “Whether you’re considering a career in law enforcement or simply want to understand how we help keep Michigan’s roads safe, this event is a great opportunity to learn, connect, and potentially take that first step toward a career with MSP.” During the event, MCOs will be available to discuss career opportunities and benefits. Information on trooper and civilian career paths within MSP will also be available.

MCOs are armed members of the MSP responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. They enforce traffic safety laws on commercial vehicles, protect the infrastructure through size and weight enforcement, conduct commercial vehicle and driver inspections, and contribute to homeland security efforts by enforcing hazardous material regulations.

MCOs also respond to emergency situations such as traffic crashes, medical emergencies, assist distressed motorists, backup other law enforcement officers, and are a resource for agencies statewide with investigations involving commercial vehicles.

Whether you’re exploring a new career path or simply interested in the behind-the-scenes work of MCOs, this event offers a unique and informative experience. You can find more information about MSP MCO career opportunities by visiting Become a Motor Carrier Officer
