Shooting investigation continues
Appears to be self defense

HARRIS — Further details have been released regarding the fatal shooting that took place in Menominee County Thursday. According to a press release from the Michigan State Police (MSP), the shooting occurred at a home in in Harris Township early Thursday morning, which resulted in the death of a man.
According to the release, troopers from the Iron Mountain Post responded at about 12:19 a.m.(CST) Thursday to a 911 call reporting there had been a shooting at a residence on County Road 551 in Menominee County’s Harris Township. Troopers arrived and found that a 34-year-old man from Wilson had been shot. Troopers and EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a physical assault between the deceased man and his domestic partner occurred at the residence prior to the shooting. The man then assaulted another member of the home with a knife and was subsequently shot. According to the MSP release, the shooting appeared to be in self-defense.
The MSP Marquette Crime Lab responded and assisted with processing the scene for evidence. A MSP Crime Victim Advocate from the Iron Mountain Post has been made available to help support those involved. The release states, “MSP troopers and detectives are continuing to work to ensure the investigation is thorough and complete.”
The incident will be submitted for review to Menominee County Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogg once the investigation is finalized. The names of the subjects involved are not being released out of respect for the families’ privacy.
