Trooper struck investigating crash
Avoids serious injury

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper escaped serious injury when he was hit by a vehicle while investigating another accidents. According to an MSP press release, the mishap occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday on US-41, near Midway Drive in Marquette County’s Marquette Township.
According to the release, troopers from the Negaunee Post responded to the injury crash. The preliminary investigation indicated that a vehicle driven by a 56-year-old man was eastbound on US41 when it apparently lost control and was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by a 36-year-old woman. Police said the at-fault vehicle then struck a guardrail and came to rest in the left-hand turn lane of the roadway.
While a trooper was investigating this two-vehicle personal injury traffic crash, a third vehicle attempted to avoid a secondary collision near the scene. Unfortunately, the evasive maneuver was unsuccessful and the vehicle struck a vehicle involved in the secondary crash and consequentially struck the trooper. The trooper was able to maneuver onto the hood of the car, thus avoiding serious injury.
The vehicle then wnet on to collided with a vehicle involved in the initial crash. The driver that struck the trooper was identified as a 57- year-old woman from Laurium.
The trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where they were treated and subsequently released.
