Man charged in Pub arson
RAPID RIVER — At approximately 12:33 a.m. Monday, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gladstone Post responded to a report of a fire at the Rapid River Pub, located at 10491 S. Main Street in the Delta County community of Rapid River.
At the time of the fire, the building was occupied by patrons. All individuals were able to evacuate safely. Following an on-scene investigation, it was alleged that the fire had been intentionally set. A Rapid River man was subsequently located and arrested for arson. He was lodged at the Delta County Jail. MSP was assisted by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Masonville Township Fire Department, and Ensign Township Fire Department.
On Tuesday, 33-year-old Steven Prestridge was arraigned in the 94th District Court on one count of Arson- Second Degree, and one count of Arson- Preparation to Burn Real Property. His bond was set at one-hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) cash/surety with additional conditions. He is next due in court on Sept. 18. The incident remains under further investigation.
State Police remind the public all defendants are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
