MASS CITY — Bidders will have the opportunity to purchase pieces of history anywhere from a vintage magazine to a 1941 Buick Straight 8. The auction will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Red Barn behind the Rousseau Bar in Mass City. The public is welcome to browse the items and participate in the live auction.
The owner of the Rousseau Bar, Angie Foley, purchased the Red Barn in February for $50,000 to utilize the space for events such as weddings. The barn was packed with materials, and she soon found herself in the possession of countless tools and antiques, and amongst the items were the last vehicles of an old car collection owned by one of the prior owners of Rousseau Bar.
Eight vehicles are considered rare and include a 1941 Buick Straight 8, 1949 Chrysler Windsor, 1956 Hudson Hornet, a 1958 Cadillac, a Cadillac Hearse, 1972 Cadillac El Dorado Convertible and two AMC Marlin Ramblers. None of the cars run, but still hold value to collectors. Other vehicles such as an old Volkswagen Beetle and Tornado are available but they were outdoors and exposed to the elements.
“The cars are pretty neat looking, and it’ll be cool if whoever gets them shares if they were able to restore the cars,” Foley said.
Other items which will be available for auction are vintage car parts, tools and farm equipment, furniture, Maytag wringer washers, antique license plates, old bottles, dining ware and more.
Some items Foley is keeping include things which can be repurposed for the barn when it is reconfigured for its events usage. She is turning three ring washers into beverage coolers and an iron bed frame to use as a backdrop for pictures during weddings. Items which are related to the Rousseau Bar will be saved and put in displays. Foley said eager to remove the items in the barn and begin the plans for the barn’s future.
Foley requested friends from Burke Real Estate from Iowa to conduct the auction, during which food and beverages will be available. She is expecting the event to be a fun opportunity for all in attendance, and expects people will enjoy seeing the vehicles auctioned at the end. She is expecting around 200 people to come visit at minimum, and she believes some will want to be able to just tour the barn and see its interior.
“I hope it’s going to be exciting for everyone. If you’ve ever been to an auction, it’s really cool. It’s like you’re winning, even though you’re spending your own money,” Foley said. “I think it’s going to be overall fun.”
