A scare is born

Laurium will be busy on Halloween

LAURIUM – The George Gipp Ice Arena will once again become a haunted house just in time for Halloween.

The annual haunted house, hosted by the Calumet High School Drama Club, will be open on October 24, 25, 30, and 31st, from 6-9 p.m.

The haunted house was in doubt for some time. At the regular September Village Council meeting Trustee Jeff Erickson mentioned having talked to the C.L.K. Schools about the annual Haunted House and learned they were not interested in doing it this year due to a time conflict with their senior play.

Village Manager Ian Lewis said subsequent discussions with the school resulted in the annual haunted house proceeding. “The band director at Calumet High School asked students who would like to put on the haunted house, provided there were enough volunteers interested in it,” Lewis said. “They decided they had enough students not involved with the play who would like to do the haunted house. So, they said “Let’s do it again.'”

The village will also hand out goodies on Halloween night at the Gipp Arena from 5-8 pm.

Lots of donations have been given this year once again to make it possible. “We’re also offering hotdogs and coffee and whatnot for the kids to come get some free hotdogs and candy while the parents warm up a little,” said Lewis. “You should see the number of parents who say “thank you. We need this. We’ve lost our energy with the kids.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
