Fire in Houghton

HOUGHTON — Less than an hour before several police officers and fire fighters were set to assist with the downtown Houghton 16th Annual Treat Street, they were called out to a structure fire in West Houghton. Units from both the Houghton and Hancock Fire Departments as well as Houghton Police, Houghton County Sheriffs deputies and Michigan state police, responded to the 700 block of West South Street. According to witnesses, the occupants of the home escaped without injury.
Firefighters arrived shortly after 3 p.m. to find smoke coming from an upstairs window. No further details were available at press time.
