ESCANABA — Multiple agencies responded to a large fire at industrial premises in northern Escanaba near the Wells water tower after a call came to Delta County Central Dispatch around noon on Thursday. As of late yesterday afternoon, some roadways in the vicinity were closed and people advised to avoid the area.

The City of Escanaba advised residents that dirty water may be possible on the north side of town near the water tower due to the fire. If dirty water occurs resident were instructed that faucets may be run for five to 10 minutes to clear the line; if dirty water persists, residents were advised to contact the City of Escanaba Water Department.

Emergency alerts had announced that in areas in the path of smoke, windows should be closed and air handling systems shut off to reduce exposure, but a second alert read that “as of 1:50 p.m., smoke from the fire is no longer a concern and air handlers for nearby facilities can be returned to normal operation.”
