Harvest Moon Night Market
CALUMET – The new Green Space Park was a busy place Sunday, where more than 30 vendors were set up for the inaugural Harvest Moon Night Market. The event took place from 4-9 p.m.
Rather than a harvest moon, vendors and attendees were greeted by 50-degree weather, thick clouds and a brisk breeze.
The Harvest Moon included local and regional vendors from across the Upper Peninsula, offering everything from produce to tarot readings, candles, soaps, herbs, art, jam, crystals, produce, crafts, books, flowers, bakeries, baskets, salves, accessories, garments, seasonal décor and more. There was also live entertainment.
Lena Johnson, of Dragon Tree Homestead, had her booth set up, where she offered eclectic spiritual readings. One of the event organizers, BigGoat Farm, contacted Johnson to invite her to the event. “They brought me here because I said I can read trinkets and runes and oracle cards and stuff like that,” said Johnson. Oracle cards are a type of divination tool used for guidance and introspection.
Johnson said she also brought some of her artwork to the event. Johnson said the organizers wanted to create a spooky market situation for the fall season. “It’s kind of like just a Halloween thing,” she said.
According to a social media post by Pride Market, the Harvest Moon Night Market sprang out of Pride Market, and is being organized by Pride Market organizer Alakotila, along with Pride Market vendor Danielle of BigGoat farm, and Nikki of Nikki Makes.
