Paula Porter, for the Gazette The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign kicked off Friday and over the weekend began the first of several friendly "competitions" between various local groups. On Saturday, student athletes from Calumet High School, ringing bells at Pat's IGA, shown above, took on Hancock Bulldog student athletes collecting at Houghton Walmart. While the total of the money collected was not available, it's certain the real winners were those people and programs served locally by the Salvation Army.
