Havin’ a ball
Event to benefit July 4th activities
Mark Wilcox/Daily Mining Gazette The Adams Township Volunteer Fire Department gets its message across with a dramatic float in the Annual South Range Fourth of July parade. The Annual Hunter's Ball Saturday will raise funds for next year's July 4th activities.
SOUTH RANGE – The South Range 4th of July Committee announced its Fourth Annual Hunters Ball Saturday according to committee member Mike Renier.
The event is from 7-11 p.m., Saturday, at VWF hall, on South Baltic Avenue, in South Range. Slick Nickel, who has performed at past ballw, will be back again this year, with music for dancing or just listening.
Like last year, there will be a 50/50 raffle, along with gift basket drawings, Renier said.
The Hunters Ball is one of the committee’s fundraisers for the annual Fourth of July celebration that South Range is legendary for. To raise money for the annual 4th of July celebration, the committee puts on several events per year, including the annual Valentine’s Day dance. All proceeds raised from the events go just to funding the Fourth of July event.
The committee’s commitment has made South Range a premier celebration destination for people from all across the western Upper Peninsula for decades. But in spite of the efforts of the committee to repeat its popular celebrations, there is not much it can do without public support. Its social media page contains an introduction that reads:
Renier, the past committee chairman, has been volunteering in the community for 17 years, because, he says, it gives him a sense of purpose and he contributes to making the community a better place.
The 4th of July committee invites any resident of Houghton County to join the organization for fun and entertainment. We offer fun events during the year, examples are the Valentine’s Dance, Christmas Party, and the 4th of July Parade and Fireworks.
