Fire in Dollar Bay

Home on Lake Street deemed 'unlivable'

Dollar Bay — Details have yet to be released regarding a house fire in Dollar Bay Saturday afternoon. Just before 2 p.m. Saturday, Central Dispatch from Negaunee Township, sent word out to the Dollar Bay Fire Department regarding a structure fire on Lake Street in Osceola Township (Dollar Bay).

According to reports the home was engulfed in flames when fire fighters arrived. Soon other departments were dispatched to the fire. At press time it is not known if the residence was occupied or if there were any injuries, as fire fighters were still on the scene late Saturday afternoon.

According to the Dollar Bay Fire Department Facebook page, no injuries were reported. Other Facebook accounts report the home is no longer livable. The Dollar Bay Fire Department thank Quincy Franklin-Hancock township and Hancock City Fire Departments for their assistance of “Mutual Aid” during the fire today.

Thanks also went out to the Calumet Township Fire Dept, Michigan State Police, Houghton County Sheriff’s Dept. and Mercy Ambulance.

Dollar Bay Fire Dept also recognized the Dollar Bay Water Department for keeping the hydrants filled with water and to volunteers on the scene for providing water, coffee and sandwiches for fire fighters
