OSCEOLA TOWNSHIP – The Dollar Bay Fire Department was recalled Sunday to a home at 23187 Lake Street in Dollar Bay, the site of a destructive house fire Saturday. Fire fighters were dispatched once again when the fire that severely damaged the home Saturday rekindled.
The initial fire was reported just before 2 p.m. Saturday. Michigan State Police Calumet Post said Monday morning that troopers were dispatched at approximately 1:50 p.m. Houghton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:07 p.m.
No injuries were reported in the blaze.
Assisting on scene Saturday were Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Township Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department, city of Hancock Fire Department, Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Calumet Post, and Mercy Ambulance.
On Sunday morning, the Dollar Bay Fire Dept. Facebook page included a post on behalf of the LeClaire family, who, the post says, owns the home. It reads in part:
“As many have already heard, my parents and brothers have lost their home to a devastating house fire. The house is no longer livable and everything inside is no longer safe to use. My parents and brothers have put so much time and effort into renovating this home over the last 5 years.”
In addition to the family’s home, the post says, it was also a place of business.
A gofundme fundraiser has been started.
“Our family is facing an unimaginable loss,” the post states. “A recent house fire completely destroyed the home of my parents and two brothers, taking with it not only their belongings but the place where so many memories were made. No one was there when the fire started, and we are incredibly grateful for that. However, the house is a total loss.”
Funds raised will help with immediate and long-term needs, including:
• Temporary housing and basic living expenses
• Clothing and personal necessities
• Replacing essential household items
• Recovery, rebuilding, and work-related losses.
