IRON RIVER — The Iron River community will welcome home Olympic champion snowboarder Nick Baumgartner on Wednesday after his recent participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. A 2022 Olympic gold medalist, Baumgartner again represented Team USA on the world stage this year.

While he did not medal in 2026, his determination, longevity in the sport and commitment to representing his hometown continue to inspire Iron River and the entire Upper Peninsula, event organizers said.

West Iron County Schools will host a student-only pep assembly from 2 to 2:45 p.m. (CST) at West Iron County High School. Baumgartner will be escorted from Stambaugh Hill to the high school by local law enforcement and the fire department in a celebratory procession honoring his Olympic journey.

After the school assembly, a public event will begin at 3:30 p.m. (CST) at Riverside Pizza in Iron River. The public invited to stop by to congratulate Baumgartner, take photos and receive autographs as Iron River shows its appreciation and pride, organizers said.

The public celebration is made possible with support from local partners, including Krist Oil Company and Ponsse, along with the collaboration of local first responders, school officials and the city of Iron River.

Starting at $3.50/week.
