Woman injured in snowmobile accident
Crash occurred on logging road
STANTON TOWNSHIP – A woman from Wisconsin was hospitalized as a result of a weekend snowmobile accident in rural Houghton County.
At 1:39 p.m. Saturday, Michigan State Police (MSP) at the Calumet Post responded to a call regarding a snowmobile crash near Toivola.
MSP Sergeant Russell Larson said a 58-year-old female from Fond du Lac, Wisc. sustained minor injuries in the accident which occurred on a logging road near the Beacon Hill-Toivola Road.
Larson said according to the crash report, the driver struck a tree stump that was not visible under the snow.
“It caused the driver to be dislodged,” he said. “It caused her to put additional pressure on the throttle, which then accelerated the snowmobile into a tree.”
Larson, reiterated the accident occurred on a logging road and not on a marked snowmobile trail. “There was a tree stump under the snow was not able to be seen,” Larson said.
The driver was taken to a local hospital by Mercy Ambulance. No other details are available at press time.
