Fatal crash in Iron County
IRON COUNTY — A 45-year-old woman, from the Dickinson County community of Vulcan, died early Thursday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 141 near Offerman Road in Iron County’s Hematite Township.
Also injured was a 22-year-old female passenger, also from Vulcan, in the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado driven by the 45-year-old, Iron County Sheriff Ryan Boehmke said in a news release.
The pickup truck was southbound on U.S. 141 about 3:35 a.m. when it crossed the center line and collided with a 2021 International box truck, the sheriff said. The driver of the box truck, a 55-year-old Felch Township man, was not injured.
The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the site. The passenger was taken by ambulance to Aspirus Iron River.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Names were not been released pending next of kin notifications, according to the news release.
Assisting were Amasa Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Iron County Search and Rescue, Iron County Road Commission, Baraga County Road Commission, Aspirus EMS, Michigan Department of Transportation and Iron County Central Dispatch.
