Toddler dies in Munising Fire

MUNISING — Media reports from the central U.P. indicate a child has died as the result of a residential fire in the city of Munising. Several media outlets reported Friday that Alger County Emergency Management said, the victim found at the scene of the house fire was a three year old resident of the home. Media reports quoted the Emergency Management Public Information Officer Robert Steinhoff. “On behalf of the family, and the emergency responders, we ask that the public be respectful in the wake of this unthinkable tragedy,”

The fire was reported shortly before 6 p.m. on the 600 block of W. Superior Street. When fire crews from several departments arrived at the scene, the home was fully engulfed reports indicate. According to reporting, firefighters from Munising City, Munising Township, AuTrain Township, and Rock River Township Fire Departments responded. Additionally, officers from the Munising City Police Department, Alger County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and U.S. Forest Service responded, as well as paramedics from Alger County EMS.

No further details, including the victim’s name have been released as of press time Friday.
